The sun was out and everything was green and bright, cheery could not describe the day so far for Noah Greystone. Even flies farts smelled like rainbows as far as he was concerned. The reasons behind such a merry day where varied but they all started when he woke up, at his desk as per usual. he felt good that morning, despite the fact that he has half of what he had written down printed on his face as a result of sleeping on parchment. He washed scrubbed and got dressed and tried to tame his hair before finally leaving his office ready for breakfast.
Breakfast was entertaining and insightful. The hufflepuffs where unusually rowdy and had an internal food fight amongst the second years and the third years. The ravenclaws where as per usual eating while reading, they hadn't much changed since Noah himself was a ravenclaw. The gryffindors stuffed their faces and talked about their most recent win in quidditch which wasn't much of a surprise considering they won against hufflepuff. However most surprising were the slytherins, who didn't look half as sullen and gloomy as they usually did.
Lessons followed breakfast and Noah prepared a ripper of a lesson about how to deflect on coming spells all while listening to music as a distraction in the background. He only had to take three students to the sick bay.
By lunchtime was in the lawns sitting near a bush with his note pad out watching a small green pixie play with the water droplets hanging from the leaves. She was tiny, perhaps the size of his pinkie finger nail and she wore a small green dress which blended perfect with the bush. Long red claws told him she was also venomous but her placid behavior told him she was not aggressive by nature.
He grew so absorbed that he didn't even notice the gnomes stealing his lunch, or the first years slap a kick me sign on his back, or the figure that came up behind him. At least not until it was to late.

Sky had had a pretty okay morning. The castle was still new to her and she was still struggling to find her way around but lessons were going much better. Hogwarts professors seemed to be more easy going than those at Beauxbatons but she liked it. They seemed more approachable although she was yet to approach any of them. Skylar was an awkward soul and she was also a little frightened. The staff had been informed of her... condition and she tried to keep under the radar so that none could judge her. That had been her plan all along until that idiot had ruined it for her.
Since their little meeting in the library, Sky was not able to forget about her encounter with Regulus Black. Since then she had learnt that indeed he was the brother of Sirius Black. Also related to Narcissa and Bellatrix, but she was yet to know who they were. The Black family was apparently well known amongst purebloods in Britain and apparently Sirius was no longer welcome there since he had been sorted into Gryffindor. It hadn't taken long to find all this out. Girls seemed to be more than willing to talk about the boys and had more knowledge on them than any of the subjects they took at the castle.
Now it was lunch and Skylar had sat at her house table picking at things but had soon given up. Hunger was never a real issue anymore. She only ate to keep up appearances and even then she would often forget and go for days only remembering when he father noted it, during the summer. She picked herself up from the table and left the hall without a word to anyone.
The grounds of the castle were vast. It was a pleasant autumn day. Not too bright and with a gentle breeze around the place. Sky walked along the lawns just taking in how beautiful the castle was. On her travels she saw some younger years run off and frowned as she saw a sign stuck on someone's back. Moving closer Sky leaned down and plucked the sign off before standing next to the figure. It was her Defence professor. "Um.. Hello Professor Greystone." Sometimes Sky wished her Italian accent would not be so thick when she spoke. He was the professor she was most afraid of encountering. His job was to vanquish creatures like her. "Some troublesome first years." Sky lamely waved the kick me sign at him.

The voice was heavy with accent and rather emotional though Noah suspected that the owner wasn't aware of that aspect. Slowly she backed up and turned regretfully away from the pixie who had crawled into the bushes to hide from the vampires. His sharp eyes didn't even notice the sign, at least not until last. Instead his attention was drawn to her fangs, her pale skin and sort of hungry expression that he suspected was permanent with her condition. However this was not what troubled him, instead he found himself worrying about the wary almost fearful look her in eye and how she seemed ready to run.
"Afternoon" he began cheerfully twirling his pencil in his fingers before dropping it quite fabulously. "I..er..couldn't resist, to see one of those is so rare" he explained pushing his black rimmed glasses back up his nose. "My book, it's an encyclopedia on species I find, want to look?" he babbled nervously before finally noticing the sign in her hands.
He then took a good look at her before suddenly hugging her, "are they troubling you? because of what you are" he said carelessly grinning like a child with a lolly pop. "Don't worry I think your fascinating" he said tapping her nose. For what it was worth his words were totally and completely true, he did think she was fascinating. In his mind there was nothing dangerous about her, because if there was she wouldn't be studying at Hogwarts. Obviously she was just a girl with traits that are held as undesirable and therefore was discriminated on, however what she really was was something to be worshiped. So he felt it was his duty to make her feel so, no matter what had happened in the past.
This was Noah's shining trait, his clumsy caring nature that got him in a whole heap of trouble with students and teachers mostly regarding personal space. He came from a family who held unity and love in the highest regard, his father always taught him that a hug is the best healing balm. Be it nightmares, wounds or just hurt feelings, a quick embrace from his mother, father or brother and the bad feelings were gone, that was the power of love.

Skylar shuffled her feet a little as the professor turned his attention to her. She had seen a brief glimpse of the pixie he had been speaking about and said, "You were lucky to have caught her in action then." It was always nice to see things that people were passionate about. Looking down at the book Sky gave a short nod and sat herself on the grass next to her professor. He was one that the girls often whispered about behind their hands but Sky had not been interested in this aspect. She enjoyed defence lessons. It was what her Dad did with the ministry as an Auror.
The hug took her by surprise and she awkwardly patted her Professor on the back before looking at him with alarm. "No.. no no. I... oh Merlin do you think people know? Professor Dumbledore said no one would know apart from staff." All of a sudden Sky felt a rush of panic raise in her. She knew she was a little more pale than usual and probably cold to touch but those could be put down to just being ill more often than not, or lack of sleep. When he said she was fascinating Sky just looked at him a little dumbfounded.
"Not everyone thinks like you do." She herself had not had any problems as no one really knew but she had seen some cases and read the stories. "I worried that you might... I don't know. That you might be cautious of me. Your subject teaches us to defend against them...us...me." Sky was still struggling to come to terms with what she was and the word itself was off limits. The fact that he had been so caring and understanding almost made her want to cry. A little part of her felt guilty that she had assumed that he would be anything but accepting. If it had been a problem he would not have taken her into his class.

She seemed nice, sad and wary but nice. Noah grinned widely as she sat down near him, though the pixie was fascinating she was far more interesting. Already his mind was brimming with questions most of them regarding her vampire nature and how she managed all its highs and lows. However he kept silent instead staring at her in wonder. "I'm sorry how rude, I'm staring" he mumbled, still staring. "Please call me Noah, ah and your name is?" he greeted finally breaking his stare during a quick pause to take his glasses off.
She seemed to take the hug better than most people. Most people screamed or pushed him away, to some extremes they even slugged him in the jaw though that had only happened twice. Her reaction however to his statement made him sad though, she was so afraid of people knowing that she couldn't even take a joke. "No I don't, except those you reveal it to, that sign was on my back wasn't it, troublesome first years" he said solemnly taking a more serious approach. It was only now that he has stopped to think that he realized what he had done, hugged a girl, hugged a student. "Ah goblins breath I hugged another student and a girl on that, damn it I've been warned, you aren't about to faint are you"
[/b] he babbled showing actually concern. Noah had quite the problem with fainting female students, mostly from fourth to sixth years. Already though classes had only just started he had sent six girls to the hospital wing, one with major head wounds. In his first week he was personally warned by the headmaster to not hug the female students, this was mostly because he was a young professor, not because of the fainting girls. Her thoughts on how he would react to her however pulled him back into reality and blushing he smiled at her chuckling at her fears. "If I was my mother you would have something to worry about but I am not my mother" he said soothingly "I find all magical races fascinating"."[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

She could feel him staring and that tingling feeling came to her cheeks. A very faint pink tinge came to her cheeks. Sky found that at meals her goblet had a thicker red substance in it. Skylar could not be more grateful for having things supplied to her rather than having to go out and find it herself. Her recent meal meant that a blush was possible for her. "Noah. That's a nice name." Sky said to him though she wasn't sure that calling a professor by his given name was the usual protocol. "Skylar Winters. Sky for short."
She calmed down when he said that no one would know except those she revealed it to. That was how she intended it to be though her confrontation with Regulus the other day made her worry that he had caught on. "Yes it was. I'm sorry. I just didn't think they'd try and get away with something like that." When she had been a first year Sky had been rather cautious about her professors. Her father had always taught her that teachers should be treated with respect. Without them she would not be able to progress.
He started to babble and Sky just looked at him before shaking her head. "I believe that fainting is to do with breathing... that's kind of not a problem for me." It was a joke in very bad taste and the first she had made and still she cringed a little. "You don't have to worry about me fainting." Though she was a little curious as to why he though she would do. Then Noah mentioned his mother and Sky asked, "Not a big fan of us?" She was not trying to pry into his life, but continuing the conversation.

The blush Noah noted was unusual for a vampire half breed but then Dumbledore would be keeping her well fed to keep the cravings at bay. It was nice to see that she was being well looked after especially since she was a half vampire. Keeping such a big risk at school was a big gamble on Dumbledore's behalf, though then again so was keeping a werewolf. Of course as the professor for DADA, Noah knew about all the little extra abilities his students had, from the small ones to the big ones and he was equipped to handle them all.
"Sky, I like that name, it's very uplifting" he answered with a kind smile. "Don't worry about those first years, I'm making them study the Arctic Long Legged Acid Vomiting Spider tomorrow" he said with a wicked smile. The spider was one of his favorite lesser known creatures, it was incredibly rare and quite harmless except for the fact that it vomited highly corrosive acid when frightened. It was always good to use when he needed to scare the pants off some of his more troublesome students because quite honestly the spider was terrifying.
"I believe that fainting is to do with breathing... that's kind of not a problem for me."
Noah nodded in approval chuckling at the memories of gasping and fainting girls, to him it was all rather amusing though Dumbledore didn't quite agree on that one. "Might try some breathing exercises next class then, breathing is essential for deference against the dark arts" he said with a chuckle "can't have them fainting when the dark lord comes a knocking" he said sadly turning his glasses slowly in his hands. Her probe about his mother made him frown even further, "no she isn't" he replied stiffly. "She is what you would call an old school aurour, anti everything except wizard kind and muggles" he sighed sadly.

She offered a small smile. Sky felt like her name had always been weird when she was younger. She had certainly had some stick off people when she was younger. But as she had grown up she felt like it fit her. Fugitive. That was her. Always running and hiding from something. Even when there was nothing she was tucked away from people.
When Noah mentioned what he was making them study she couldn't help but laugh a little. Spiders were not exactly her favourite creatures but she could deal with them. However, long legged acid vomiting spiders were probably never going to make the top of her pet list. "I'm sure that will be... uh, interesting." She could only imagine how many people would either be preparing to find them and wanting to duel against them and how many (girls mainly) were probably going to squirm and find them disgusting.
"Do you get a lot of fainters?" His subject was a difficult one. Definitely not for the faint hearted. She didn't know what the drop out rate was for people here but at Beauxbatons a fair share of them had stopped when it came to OWLs. Sky couldn't help but think that it would be more than useful now that they were coming into darker times. Of course those were just whispers, right? She pulled her mind away from it trying not to think of the floo conversations that her father had had and that had caused him to be transferred to Britain. But then Noah mentioned it himself. To make light of it was to show you were not willing to be afraid she guessed. She admired her professor for that. "Well they will have you to thank." Sky commented.
The frown made her feel a little uncomfortable. Like she had pried too far. "I can relate somewhat. My mother is anti everything apart from muggle." Speaking to him seemed easy and though Sky rarely mentioned her mother she couldn't help but try and show him that he wasn't alone. "She could not take the magical world." 'And so she left us.' Sky dread to think what her own mother would think of her now.
