Marlene sometimes wondered if she should just move her bed into the library. It was not that she wanted to spend her every waking moment here, but it usually where she wound up when she needed a quiet place to complete her classwork. Merlin, sometimes she wondered how she had ended up in Gryffindor. Perhaps it would be a good idea to live here with the amount of work the Professors were already piling upon them. N.E.W.T.s were not even until next year, and they had all just enjoyed a summer away from drowning in agony over their O.W.L. scores and the sheer amount of studying that had taken up most of her fifth year. Marlene swore she could not remember anything other than what the inside of her textbook looked like. No doubt her sister would have dragged her out of the library by her hair to get more sunlight.
Her lips quirked into an amused smile at the thought before looking over her finished essay for Transfiguration. McGonagall had already assigned them an essay on the uses of human Transfiguration and the possible hazards if not performed correctly. Marlene had gotten into the habit last year to check over her work a second and third time, but she really would rather be done with the entire assignment. The library was peaceful, but she did wish to enjoy the rest of her free period while it still lasted. She rolled up the parchment carefully and placed it in her bag along with her textbook and quill. Now she had to give herself the motivation to actually move herself from her seat.
She idly stretched out her stiff fingers and lamented the fact she would have to repeat this process over for her Potions assignment. Marlene sighed quietly before resting her forehead against the cool wood of the table. It looked like the sun would be waiting while she mentally motivated herself to use her muscles for something other than writing to leave the library. It was not working too well since she was still slumped over the table. Merlin, she hoped Madam Pince would not catch her like this, or she would be kicked out for sleeping. Could she be kicked out for sleeping? Maybe only if she snored and dared to disrupt the quiet sanctity of the library. Marlene snorted in amusement at the thought.

The Library. The place was to Sirius what wide open spaces full of light were to boggarts. It diminished his spirits and sucked the life out of him bit by bit. It was the halo to his horn, the cat to his dog, his antithesis basically. But that was where he found himself because his idiotic friend Peter Pettegrew had left one of their most jeweled possessions the Marauders Map lying around, potentially unlocked. Sirius could not bear the thought of losing it, so he had come dashing on to the library like a dog that had its tail just stepped on.
He found the map lying exactly where Wormtail said he left it and as expected it was unlocked. He let out a little howl of disbelief and quickly tapped his wand onto the prized parchment muttering, mischief managed. Satisfied he pocketed the map and turned around to leave. Unconsciously he send a fleeting look at all the Hogwartians who thought the library was a good place to spend their free periods in. He was ashamed to see many Gryffindors amongst the library's ranks too. But then again, it had lately become really difficult to do the work in the Gryffindor tower as of late. Sirius grinned at the thought being more than partially responsible for that fact.
Sirius spotted a pretty girl in his year who he knew, slumped on a table a little way from where he was standing. She was also in the Gryffindor Quidditch Team but Sirius didn't know her as well as he would like to. He saw this as an opportunity to change that. He grinned to himself again as he walked over to stand behind her. 'boo!' He said hoarsely, laughing. 'Rough day, McKinnon?'

Marlene would have been quite content to fall asleep right there on the table. Class work had a horrid way of making her wish to sleep the day of way, but that never deterred her from completing it. Sometimes she really did wonder how she had not ended up in Ravenclaw. Just before she could take a blissful nap, an unexpected voice had her jumping. At least this person had gotten her to successfully move from her former position. Blue eyes darted upward as she turned in her seat to see Sirius Black grinning at her. A slim brow quirked as she regarded him with mild amusement. Honestly, she was more surprised to actually see him in the library. As far as she knew, he and the rest of his group of friends avoided it like the plague.
“More like I’m drowning in endless essays. I thought we would get a break after finishing those hellish O.W.L.s,” she lamented with a sigh. Her expression became one of mild bemusement as she let her stare linger on Sirius. Marlene did not converse with him that much outside of the Quidditch Pitch, or the occasional remark in a shared class. So what did he want? Then again, she was probably thinking on it too much. All of these essays were beginning to get to her and the year had only just begun. These Professors were going to kill her before the holidays even came about.
“So, what brings you here? Don’t you tend to avoid the library like it’s the bane of your existence?” Marlene teased with a slight smile. This was definitely much more entertaining than falling asleep in the library. There was less of a chance of Madam Pince hexing her while she slept. She glanced around her table just to make sure the librarian was not lingering about like the mad bat she was.
