Snape while good inside has been tainted and twisted by his life experiences. His father being a muggle who abused him and often fought with his mother darkened his views on muggles. Now he thinks they are weak and simple, a race of people who resort only to violence and vices to solve their problems. This mind set is only molded further by his friendship with the pure-blood supremacists in slytherin house who also hate all muggle borns.

However all is not bad inside Serverus Snape, he holds a cherished love inside his darkened heart, one for Lily Evans a muggle born witch. She is his light, his sun (not just because of her red hair). Though she is muggle born she is powerful, like snape, and shares a love for magic. Though he may not show it inside he is a kind person and Lily seems to be the only person who acknowledges this. She sees his intelligence, his kindness and his love out of the grime and hatred.

He has a passion for learning and creating and this is inspired by magic. He creates spells, though most are hexes, and enjoys studying the method of magic. The only reason he excels in curses and hexes is because of his torture done to him by James and his group.
At the end of the day there is nothing Snape prefers more than to sit alone in a classroom with his potions book, a cauldron, a wand and his own imagination.

detailed history
Snape was born in a muggle suburb known as Spinner's End. His mother was a pure blood from the Prince family bloodline and his father was a muggle. He discovered magic from a very young age and like most children born among muggles this created a way for him to escape from the chaos back at home. His mother and father constantly fought and while at home Snape avoided them like a foul stench. His only sanctuary was a field not far from his home where he could practice magic in peace without shouting or name calling.

This was how he met Lily Evans, the love of his life. She came up the hill pursued by a droning muggle who was shouting names, it was only until later that Snape learned this was Lily's sister. At this point Snape had developed a deep loathing for all things muggle, he was a wizard and so was better than his despicable muggle father. However he found a strange almost stunning contrast with Lily who was muggle born.
Together they spend their days practicing magic and escaping from their families until they both finally got their letters.

When they arrived at Hogwarts Snape was proud to call himself a slytherin however he found a great sadness began to well up inside when Lily wa sorted into Gryffindor. It was during these early days at Hogwarts that Snape met James Potter, a pure blood wizard and proud Gryffindor. Their rivalry was initially based on Snapes pride was a slytherin and his hatred for all things muggle however it deepened as James fell for Lily.

As their years progressed Snape showed considerable talent in dark magic developing several curses and hexes to use on James and his gang. He was taken in as a member of the slug club as he like Lily showed a great amount of talent towards potion making. His fights with James continued however he remained friends with Lily, she was his contrast, his hope and his light.

Now in his sixth year Snape lives in the shadows avoiding Lily now like he did his parents however this is because of his shame. During a bullying incident with James he called Lily a mud blood and forever sealed her away from him. It remains his darkest memory.
