Sky had always been interested in magical creatures. Of course after becoming one herself it had been something that she had strayed away from. However since transferring Sky had picked it back up again. The classes were usually held outdoors and there were a number of interesting things that they had been learning.
The trouble had arisen when their recent assignment. Being placed into pair already gave her a large amount of anxiety but then finding out that she was paired with Regulus Black took the biscuit. This was the boy she had been happily avoiding since their little argument in the library.
For a few days after the assignment Sky had continued to avoid the youngest Black but then she decided that she needed to do something about it. She needed to ask to swap with someone else. And that was what brought Sky here to Professor Edgmon's office. She knocked on the door before letting herself in. "Evening Professor." Sky said quietly. "I hope I am not disturbing you."

As a professor, Matt hadn't had much experience in teaching yet. Having only just arrived at Hogwarts he'd already found that the school rivalry was much like he remembered. Everyone against Slytherin. And as he'd found early in the day. His assignments while fun, Were an annoyance to almost every teacher in the school and he was glad that he was causing the strife, it was almost a balm to his mind.
As he looked up and saw Ms. Winters walking in he sighed. He already knew the complaint. It was one he'd received about five times already today since assigning the pairs. And he already knew what his answer would be in return. "You haven't disturbed me yet." he said as he set the piece of Parchment down in front of him and put the quill away. "What can I help you with?" Matt asked with an inward sigh.

I was an interesting time of the day for Regulus, one where he had moved on from any lingering homework assignments he tackled with rigor from his morning cup of tea and he was now musing on a point of contention that he had to deal with. He flexed his hand a bit just at the thought of it. Care of magical creatures was a compulsory undertaking for the young Black and he found it an interesting aside to some of his other more practical classes. But he had to admit that knowing your average wolf from a werewolf had its advantages when in the thick of it all. He was more than happy to complete his assignments to the letter and throwing in some extra references for good measure, anything to keep the good school reports flowing back home.
What had ruffled his feathers recently was his run in with a young gryffindor in the library. Not only didn't she take kindly to his justified dismay over the condition she had left a textbook in, but she concluded their argument by biting his hand. A deep bite that drew blood and had Regulus explaining this story to the nurse on duty but waving any insistence on reporting the girl. He'd found out from asking around that the girl was Skylar Winters, it was strange how many people knew about her considering she just transferred in. He guessed transfer students were few and far between, the school loved a bit of gossip. Regulus would have preferred to never see her again, but when the assignment pairings were released for care of magical creatures, it wouldn't stand. Mainly because he was fearful for his fingers...
He made his way to the office of Professor Edgmon, wondering how easy it would be to swap with someone else. As he went to knock on the door he noticed it was already ajar. He tapped it as he walked in to announce his presence but he wasn't expecting who was on the other side. It seemed Skylar was already there talking to the professor, was she eager to get started or here for a similar reason? "Perfect." He said, noting the convenience of the situation. "Am I interrupting anything important or...?" He asked, still unsure if he should wait his turn. If they weren't here to talk about the same thing, Regulus didn't want to appear rude to someone who might be giving him references after school. But he figured he would be asking his head of house for that.

Sky could pick up on the fact that her Professor seemed somewhat tense. Sky hesitated not sure whether this was such a good idea. Being new in the school meant that she felt she was playing catch up and she would not need to place herself in the bad books of the teachers. "It's was just about the recent assignment you gave us..." Skylar started.
She was however interrupted when someone else entered the room. Oh Merlin. Really? Did this have to happen right now? Regulus had walked in and by the sounds of his entrance he was also after the same thing that she was. This was not a surprising. He was probably even less fond of her after she bit him. Sky had honestly been surprised that no one had spoken to her about that and that she had not been placed in detention. Of course she was also very relieved.
"No." Sky answered a little too shortly. "I was just going to discuss the assignment with Professor Edgmon." Sky turned back to the teacher in front of her. "I think it would be in the best interest of everyone if we were able to be reassigned. There are just some personal issues I think that would get in the way." Skylar explained politely. This was nothing to do with house difference. She still thought the rivalry was stupid.

Matt's eyes darted to the door. great the other part of the fantastic duo. He thought to himself as he sighed. "You are not interrupting anything of importance." he said as he looked back at the young woman. "Now you have to explain to me something." he began. "Why would I allow you two to switch partners when I've refused the five pairs before you. You both have skills that are useful in this project and I have a feeling that while you are both 'against' it" he said with air quotes. "you should really be grateful that I haven't decided to grade your project down already due to lack of cooperation." Matt said as he looked at both of them. "I'm Assuming though Mr. Black that you are here for the same reasons." he said. "So if I am wrong please tell me so." he added trying not to be too harsh on the young man if he was indeed wrong.

Regulus wondered why life wasn't this convenient all the time? having everyone you needed to talk to being in the same room at the same time. He defiantly wanted to change partners, he would take anyone over Skylar. He knew anyone would love to have him, he always scored top marks in every homework assignment. It seemed Skylar was here for the same reason he was, could she end up doing all the work for him? That would free up Regulus' time for other issues that dropped down his list a bit today.
As Skylar finished her drawn out song and dance about changing partners, Reg pointed at her in agreement. "Personal issue's indeed." Regulus agreed with a slight sarcastic undertone hinting that there was far more to the situation than anyone else knew about. "I second that, anyone else you can put me with?" He agreed, stepping further into the office standing next to Skylar. Maybe a more physical presence of students would help press the point home further. Regulus honestly hadn't considered what he would do if he was stuck with this girl, beyond the joking comments about wearing some gloves, she seemed impossible to talk to from his perspective.
When Professor Edgmon jumped to the conclusion that he was here for the same reason, he was a bit taken aback by the abruptness he adopted to do it. "You would do it because these are some pretty unusual circumstances." Regulus noted, shifting his weight a bit. He was always uncomfortable talking to teachers, but he felt stronger this time because he knew he was in the right. "It's nothing to do with a lack of cooperation." He added for good measure, offended by the idea he was being graded on how well he was getting on with other students. He had his friends and people he knew a bit. He didn't need to be felt like he was being forced to make nice for good grades. Academia was about what you handed in on paper, not what smiles were exchanged before hand.

Skylar hadn't realised that so many people would have issues with their pairings. She cursed them quietly for wearing down their professors patience. Of course he would not be willing to do anything for them now. Sky really didn't even see the point of them staying here and trying to win him around. If he did it for them then he would have a string of people waiting to tell him how unfair he was and how favouritism was not a good quality. She took in a deep breath as she watched Regulus attempt to win him around.
"It honestly isn't to do with lack of cooperation." Skylar echoed Regulus. However, she then added, "If there really is nothing you can do then I am sorry for wasting your time." Skylar told him. They could divide up the project and then they would not need to worry about spending time with each other. If they desperately needed to work together they could just owl each other instead. She was not going to get on her teachers bad side when she potentially had him for another two years.
