Zara sat herself down on a bench that sat on a hill that overlooked the Shack. On the bench next to her lay a bag of sweets, inks and parchment. Some simple supplies that she needed for school. The air was getting colder now and Zara was looking forward to Hogsmeade weekends in the snow. Where all the students would leave footprints and shops would start to sell their knitwear.
Leaning back against the bench her eyes focused down on the Shack. She had heard plenty of stories about the rickety house. Apparently it was haunted but she wasn't so sure. The ghosts in the castle were not malevolent and that included the Bloody Baron. Sure there was Peeves but even he wasn't bad enough to cause the racket that came from the Shack. Whatever was in there had some serious issues.
Hugging her arms around herself Zara let out a sigh. She was supposed to have met with her brother today but he had let her down. If there was someone that she felt comfortable with it was her brother, who had looked after her since she was young. But these days he was becoming more sporadic in when he was able to see her and not and to some extent it got to her. She felt like she was losing him and yet in another way she felt relieved. At least she wasn't getting involved in what he was diving into. Not yet at least.

Matts day had begun rather slowly. His students giving him excuses as to why his assignments were not done. To the failed lunch escape attempt by his next pet project. He'd been rather uninterested in it today so he'd made his way down to Hogsmeade once classes had been released and had been sitting in the Hogs Head for the last few hours. Once he'd decided to leave he'd purchased a bottle of Fire Whiskey to go and moved out the doors.
Matt slowly made his way down the path from the Hogs Head as he took another pull of his Fire Whiskey from the bottle in his hand. His eyes closing as he took the enjoyable burn in. As he walked down the path a bit further he opened his eyes again and beheld the sight of someone sitting outside of the Shrieking Shack. Moving up behind her he sighed. "Evening Miss. O'Reilly." he said as he sighed. "How is your evening going?" he asked.

Zara jumped slightly when someone greeted her. Her thoughts had been too immersed in what her brother had been getting into. Clearing her through she turned slightly to see the Care of Magical Creatures professor. Zara was one of the students of the subject but this Professor was new, along with a few others. "Good evening Professor." Zara greeted him. She hadn't really had much interaction with him and so tried to save her judgement.
"It could have been a better evening." Zara told him honestly before turning back towards the shack. "Your own?" Zara returned the question to him. It was always odd to catch her lecturers outside the classroom environment. Something about teachers just screamed that they had no life before teaching and no life outside of it either. However that was obviously not true.

He nodded as she greeted him in return. "Well considering that I've been down in Hogsmeade Since classes let out." he said as he looked at her. Moving to stand next to the fence he sighed as he leaned back and stretched before taking another pull. "What brings you out here tonight?" Matt asked her curiously as he looked back over at the house. "This place isn't all that special. We have more haunted places in Ireland that act up more often." he said

She eyed him cautiously as he leaned against the fence. "Shouldn't you be marking paper or something rather than wasting an evening with a bottle?" Zara asked him. She didn't care how blunt she was. It wasn't like he could give her a detention. They weren't in school and technically she wasn't doing anything wrong. She genuinely wondered why he was drinking the evening away on his own. Weren't there other professors around the place that he could socialise with?
"I was meant to be meeting my brother but evidently something was more important" Okay so she was less than impressed by the feeling that she was being replaced and that she was becoming more of a side line figure in his life. Zara took a deep breath but her anger disappeared when he mentioned home. "Aye, don't I know it." Zara answered with a small smile playing on her lips. "We'd give Britain a run for their money every time."

Matt looked at her with a sigh. "Well, I could be grading papers if I had any. At the moment though. most of my students seem content with seeing how far they can push me before I snap. And honestly. This is the best way to keep myself from doing just that." he said as he moved to sit at the base of the fence.
Matt actually smiled for once when she mentioned home as well. "It's always nice to meet someone from the homeland." he said as he looked at her. "Of course. I haven't been back there since I left Hogwarts meself." he said as his Irish lilt slowly started to make a comeback. "Been trying to keep an eye on my siblings. Make sure they don't end up causing as many problems as I did in my final years here." he said

Students would be students. They always liked to push teachers. She had handed her assignments in, the ones that were due for this week anyway. "I guess you'll have to snap in order to see some results. Start of year always means learning how far we can push." Zara said to him. "You don't seem to scary." She gave a shrug. Looking at him now he just seemed a little lost.
"Not many of us around here, surprisingly." Matt was now actually the only other person she knew that hailed from Ireland. It made her feel a little less homesick. "I don't think I could stay away that long." Zara admitted to him. Ireland was her home and as much as she did like Hogwarts nothing else really made her want to say in Britain. "You siblings are at the school?" she asked him.

"First year trying to teach. Not really sure what I am or am not allowed to do as such." he admitted quietly. "But for the most part I'm gonna let my students push until they fail their classes and wonder why exactly that happened." he said as he looked over at her.
"It's rather amusing to think you haven't met them." he said as he looked at her. "Of course that just might be because your not in the same years or groups." He said as he glanced around. His hand moving over the bottle as he contemplated drinking more

Zara mused on his first comment. "I'd say that hexing students and using any potions on them is probably a big no." There was a slight smile on her face as she wanted to lift the mood a little bit. "But I guess that's the best method. Watch them fail and question why and then maybe they'll actually pull their finger out." It was a passive way of going about things, not something Zee would have done herself, but would still would probably be effective. She didn't really think she had the patience or the love to want to be a teacher.
"Well I'll be sure to keep and eye out now." Zara wasn't usually one to go looking for anyone but if she heard the already familiar surname she'd attempt to make an effort. Anyone from home would be welcome to at least be on hello terms with her. She watched as her Professor contemplated the bottle and she narrowed her eyes momentarily. "Do you really think it's such a good idea to be sitting around drinking?" Zara then reached into the bag and pulled out a paper bag filled with some sweets from Honeydukes. She popped a jelly slug into her mouth and felt in try to crawl around her tongue before she bit it in half. Zara then offered the bag out to Matt.

Matt kept his eyes on her as she thought about his problem. "To be honest with you. I figured the best method wouldn't be to try and hex them or use potions. But at the same time it would be the fastest method. Show them that there are forces in the world that wouldn't just stop if they were to ignore it or push to see just how far they could get." he said as he nodded.
He set the bottle down finally and nodded. "thanks." he said as he took a Jellied Slug. "Gryffindor and Hufflepuff." he said as he contemplated the slug in his hand. "That's where my sister's are." he said as he looked back at her. "And sitting here drinking is just my way of showing how bored I am against what I must do. Having had at least two papers turned in I've been able to see just what my students are learning and the next class project is gonna be a doozy." he said
